Surgery after Weight Loss
We gain and lose weight over the years. This often is accompanied with changes in our body tissue, in particular in the trunk and chest region. Excess weight loss often leaves us with excess amount of redundant tissue, which can only be addressed with surgery.
Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck: this procedure is ideal for those who have lost weight or had a pregnancy, resulting in excessive tummy skin and soft tissue. After a massive weight loss, a simple abdominoplasty might not be sufficient to correct the tummy overhang in the midline and a fleur-de-lys abdominoplasty is often needed instead. This is when you are left with a midline scar to correct excess tissue in the midline. Occasionally, there is a need to combine this with liposuction. This will be dependent on your body shape and will be discussed with you during the consultation.
Liposuction: removal of fat, via small cannula inserted through your skin, can be performed on its own or in combination with an abdominoplasty. After a massive weight loss, it may not be the best procedure as this procedure will not address the excess skin overhang and it is often advised to have an abdominoplasty instead. If you have lost a bit of weight and have difficulties shifting fat in localised areas, then this is a good procedure to consider. This procedure is not advisable after massive weight loss. Often a form of abdominoplasty is needed in these cases. Miss Liem will assess your body and advise you if this is the right procedure for you if you are considering a liposuction.
Armlift or reduction (brachioplasty): is a procedure where excess upper arm skin and soft tissue (often known as bingo wings) are removed. Excess skin can be a result of weight loss but also as a result of aging where skin loses its laxity.
Thigh lift: Excess skin and soft tissue can also occur in the upper thigh region as a result of aging or following weight loss. This can often be addressed with a thigh lift.
