Breast augmentation or enlargement using implants
When you have small breasts or have lost breast tissue following pregnancy, a breast augmentation or enlargement may be useful for you. This can be combined with an uplift if needed. An augmentation is often performed using implants, but more recently, your own fat can also be used (see breast augmentation using fat transfer). When implants are used, a department of health approved silicone implant is inserted, either below or above the muscle. Each technique will have pros and cons and will be discussed with you by Miss Liem. There are several shapes of implants; you will have a say in the choice and Miss Liem will help you with the decision. You can try out some volumes, though this will only give you an indication about the final volume. Each volume helps to assess what looks best on you, but it can never help decide the final cup size that you will have after surgery.
You will have a scar under your breasts following surgery. Although we want it to be hidden, if you have no breasts or very small breasts, the scars may en up showing due to lack of breast overhang. There is a small risk of bleeding and infection with this operation. One thing that you need to consider is that implants do cause some form of body reaction over time called capsule formation. When this happens, we can not predict. However, this will mean that you may need to have them changed or removed in the future. copyright © 2013 Anita Liem |
