Scar revision
Small scars can be revised under local anaesthesia, but larger scar revisions may need to be done under general anaesthesia.
Scar revisions may sometimes only need excision of the scar, but in some cases it may be better to change the direction of the scar to make it look better. Miss Liem will discuss all these options with you and help you with deciding what is best for your scar.
The downside of scar revisions is that your scar will look fresh again, which means it will be pink initially and it will take many months before it matures again. There is no guarantee that a scar revision will result in a better final scar and the risk is that the scar becomes lumpy (hypertrophic or keloid). This is dependent on your tendency of making good or bed scars and also on the location of the initial scar. Miss Liem will advise you on all these possibilities once she has assessed your scar. We will also help with the post-operative care of your scar with advice on how to take care of your scar.
